Yisrael, 22, was shot and killed in Evanston on July 21, 2019. His twin sister found him in front of his mother’s home on Durrell Avenue near Merrimac Street at around 4:30 a.m. “We had just come home from a wedding,” his mom, Nicole Lee, said. “He had participated in a wedding. He went home, changed clothes and said he was leaving to go visit a friend.” Lee said she later woke up hearing gunshots. “I didn’t even think it was Benayah,” Lee said. “When I heard the gunshots, that didn’t even cross my mind.” Yisrael was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. He died during surgery. Lee said he was still figuring out what he wanted to do with his future. She said he had just passed his plumber’s test. “If you didn’t know him, you would think he was shy,” Lee said. “But those who knew him knew he was goofy and would crack jokes and stuff.” Lee said the lack of tips in her son’s case has kept her from getting closure for five years. “Because somebody knows something and somebody’s not saying something,” Lee said. Lee said she’s asked people with information to come forward because she’s afraid the shooter has either shot someone before or is capable of doing it again. “We don’t want these kind of people on our streets,” Lee said. “That they think it’s OK to go murder people. So yes, I want them to come forward. University Avenue for a repot of four people shot. Upon arrival officers encountered four individuals with gunshot wounds. Shawn McDaniel Jr, male 22, was transported to The University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he also succumbed to his injuries. Shawn McDaniel, male 45, the father of Shawn McDaniel Jr. was pronounced deceased on scene. Laurenz Nixon, male 21, was also transported to The University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The fourth victim is transported to The University of Cincinnati Medical Center and is in serious but stable condition.
